HUD's FHA condo list shows Kite House approved through July 1, 2028. Search HUD's condo list.

First-time buyers earning under $206,640 pay 0.725% recordation tax

That limit is for one person. It's $236,160 for two and $265,680 for three, and the home must cost under $777,000, which Kite House's one- and two-bedrooms are. The standard rate is 1.45%. These limits run through Sept. 30, 2026; DC resets them Oct. 1.

History of Walter Reed

More than a century of care for the people who serve.

  1. 1864

    Battle of Fort Stevens

    Confederate troops attacked Fort Stevens, a few blocks south of today's campus, and President Lincoln came under fire watching from its wall.

  2. 1909

    Walter Reed General Hospital opens

    The Army opened its hospital on May 1, named for Maj. Walter Reed, whose team showed that mosquitoes spread yellow fever.

  3. 1917

    Caring for World War I soldiers

    The Army added rows of wooden wards as Walter Reed grew into its main hospital for soldiers.

  4. 1931

    The Army Medical Center

    By 1931 Walter Reed had grown into wards and courtyards around Building 1 and its lawn.

  5. 1968

    Care for the nation's leaders

    Generals Pershing, Marshall and MacArthur were cared for here, and President Eisenhower spent his last year in the hospital's Ward 8.

  6. 2007

    Care for the wounded from Iraq and Afghanistan

    Service members wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan came here for surgery and rehab. Its Military Advanced Training Center opened in 2007 to help them walk again.

  7. 2011

    Walter Reed moves to Bethesda

    The hospital's patients and staff moved to the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.

  8. 2024

    A neighborhood

    DC took over 66 acres in 2016 and broke ground in 2017. New homes now stand around the hospital's former firehouse.
